This morning at 5AM Melissa woke up with bags packed and went to the hospital. Since this was a scheduled C-Section and we had known that from the beginning, I was able to sleep in at the house until 15 minutes before the baby was scheduled to come out...kidding (we all went together). By 7AM Melissa was on her way to the operating room and by 8AM I was suiting up for the big moment.
Melissa and I had agreed from the beginning that we wanted this to be a surprise so as we went to the hospital this morning, we were both very excited to find out if we were having a boy or girl. As we got to the final moments of the procedure, my anxiety began to mount and my mind raced at the thought of our family growing.
The doctor talked us through every bit of the way and was great. "Here comes the head...that's a big head." Here come the shoulders...man this is a big baby." Before I even knew what had happened, someone in the room blurted, you have a big baby...BOY!!!
8:39AM Dr. Chewning reached in and grabbed Connor French Freakley. Weighing in at 9Lbs. 1.6 OZ his exact words were: "that is the first time in a C-Section that I have had to get a baby out one body part at a time." He is a big boy. He has a full head of hair as well just like his big brother did when he was born.
Both Connor and mom are doing great and the two of them have pretty much spent the whole day together. Just like when Ben was born, the grandparents circled around the glass of the nursery like wild animals waiting for their prey. It was another awesome moment in our lives and we are so happy that both of our moms and dads were here to share it with us. By the way, Connor means "strong willed, desire and lover of wolves." All three definitions of the name don't really fit yet, but the strong willed part is obvious when you see him nurse...that kid latches on and won't let go. I am hoping the wolf part will also turn up.
Around 3:30 we brought Ben III in to the room so he could meet his little brother. He did not really know what was going on, but we suspect that when we bring Connor home, he will start to figure some things out.
Attached are a few pictures of Connor. Melissa and Connor should be able to come home on Friday as long as everyone keeps doing well. We will keep everyone posted and appreaciate all your thoughts and prayers. This has been a great day for our family and we hope you enjoy the photos. By the way, our blog name will be changing, but we will give you a heads up as to what it will be and when we will change it.
